International Urban Design Workshop and Cities, People and Places Conference
Organised by the Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, Colombo
26 October – 1 November 2016
As part of the newly established cooperation with the KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture, Asst. prof. Koen De Wandeler coached I+ Master students Hlawn Tin Cuai (MM), Khai Sin Lee (MY), Pale Thisar Kyaw (MM) and Pisith Ty (KH) in conducting fieldwork on public space in Talad Noi and presenting this case study at the ICCPP 2016 International Student Workshop “Transforming cities through Place-making”. Three other case
studies were brought by 4th B.Arch. students from the University of Moratuwa and 4th B.Arch. students from Pannasastra University Cambodia. During two days, the 90 participants discussed and outlined a design strategy to make the presented public spaces ‘better’ places.
After a two-day exploration of the urban and architectural highlights of Colombo, the presenting students were invited to attend the International Cities, People and Places Conference (ICCPP 2016).
On 24 November 2016, the students presented their work to assembled CU-FAR faculty and students as part of Dr. De Wandeler’s Public Lecture entitled “Place-making: How to Get from Space to Place in a Fairly Short Stretch of Time”.
